Love Is Blind's Chelsea & Kwame Call It Quits After 4 Years — Here's Everything We Know

The Announcement That Shocked Fans

Love Is Blind alums Chelsea Griffin and Kwame Appiah have announced in separate statements that they are breaking up after marrying four years ago on Season 4 of the Netflix experiment set in Seattle. The news broke just one week past what would have been a milestone anniversary.

How They Shared the News

Chelsea Griffin and Kwame Appiah made a joint Instagram post with three slides on May 15. The first was a black-and-white picture of the former couple cuddling, followed by individual written statements from each of them.

Chelsea's Heartbreaking Words

Chelsea, 34, shared that a lack of love wasn't the issue. "As time went on, it became clear we are growing in different directions," she explained. "I poured my whole heart into this marriage and wanted it to work until the very end, but lasting marriages require more than love alone."

She closed her statement on a note of resilience, adding: "My mantra going forward is that I am strong, I am resilient, and there is still so much ahead of me."

Kwame's Side of the Story

Kwame, 36, described the split as "unimaginable," saying "It's been one of the hardest decisions to make." He added, "We will always have respect and care for each other in everything we shared."

On the reason for the split, Kwame explained that "amongst many other things," their life goals "don't feel aligned."

A Love Story That Almost Didn't Happen

Heading into their relationship, Chelsea and Kwame initially expressed concerns about him having to permanently relocate to Seattle from Portland, Oregon — as well as their conflicting timelines for having future children. They ultimately tied the knot in 2022 and went on to celebrate many milestones, including their second anniversary in 2024.

What's Next for the Former Couple?

Chelsea later joined the Love Is Blind casting team in 2023, showing her continued connection to the show that brought them together. Both stars have asked for privacy as they navigate this difficult transition.

Reality TV romance is rarely a fairytale — and Chelsea and Kwame's story, though it's ending, remains one of the most genuine Love Is Blind journeys to date.
